A free summer seminar for experienced high school journalism advisers

From the 23 teachers who attended this workshop in July 2019, we have included Solutions Journalism Story Ideas, other Story Ideas for a whole range of topics and Tech Examples of something they learned, many of these for data visualization, plus some resources anyone can use in the future for these topics.

Tech Thing

Skip to half way through this post and save yourself some time. We used Google Flourish, not Google Fusion. I am working on my wife’s laptop because mine is running a show this week, so I do not have my notes. I left my original post because I thought everyone could laugh at me.

Well I must have forgot a lot since our session on Google Fusion I could not make chart look anything like we did in class, but I did pull the data and get it started so that is something. However, I noticed it says google fusion will be shutdown as of Dec of 2019. Does anyone use anything else to create graphs and charts?

Here is the link to mine I hope it works.

Or maybe this one

Finally a screen shot just in case. It only shows one of the 17 pages, but it was not what I had hoped for after making a couple in class.

Wow Google Flourish is so much easier and creates a superior product. These I can see using in the classroom and our publications.
