SoJo idea: Loving
The story focuses on a food and supply closet that our school has established to help out our students and families who might be short on resources.
- Response: The problem is the population of low-income families in our school and district is growing. Led by a couple of teachers, a food pantry and supply closet (called Maslow’s) was created in a vacant area of the school. Items have been collected through business donations, food drives, etc.
- Evidence would be the number of students/families who have used it, an example of the items that have been collected.
- Produce insight by interviewing those who created and manage the pantry and those who help with collections.
- Discuss the limitations and caveats: Often get too many of certain items, not enough of others; space; getting the word out to those in need; stigma of those who don’t like to ask for help. What is being done to alleviate these problems.
