From the 23 teachers who attended this workshop in July 2019, we have included Solutions Journalism Story Ideas, other Story Ideas for a whole range of topics and Tech Examples of something they learned, many of these for data visualization, plus some resources anyone can use in the future for these topics.

Storymaps are an easy and quick tool for any website. It’s an entry to get students creating online content. Aaron Manfull published an article with some video tutorials on how to get started— but honestly, with just clicking around on the tool, one can figure it out quickly.





Positives to Storymap:

  • Easy to create, use and share
  • The tool creates html to embed on a website
  • Can upload images, video and html
  • A variety of backgrounds to select from
  • The creator can add captions, photo credit and other information
  • A quick geographical storytelling tool
  • Specific geographical locations
  • Looks visually pleasing on the computer and phone

Setbacks to Storymap:

  • None

Ideas and ways to use a Storymap:

  • College plan map
  • Upcoming concerts (include times and locations)
  • Where a club/class traveled 
  • Best pizza (or any food) in the city
  • Pretty much anything with a location
